CES runs through January 7 in Las Vegas, USA, and serves as a stage for many companies to introduce technologies that promise to be the future. With this motto, Samsung could not miss and took the opportunity to show what the future of its smartphones could be.
Strictly speaking, it was the subsidiary Samsung Display that unveiled the first prototype of a brand’s smartphone with an extendable screen. That is, a device that can physically increase the space available to view content.
Samsung’s first functional prototype with an extendable screen has arrived
After several patents were revealed, Samsung finally showed the results of months of research. In a short video released in the context of CES 2022, we see how the South Korean wants to approach this technology of the future.
The South Koreans called this technology Flex Slidable Display. In short, it is an apparently conventional smartphone, but it can expand its screen to offer the user more space to carry out their tasks.
In the prototype shown, we see that the user can enlarge the available screen by pressing a button on the left side of the smartphone. This starts a mechanical process for expanding the screen, in this case on the right side.
According to Samsung, what will be displayed on that part of the screen will vary depending on the content that the user is consuming. In the video we see the example of Instagram navigation, with the addition of shortcuts to other applications in the additional part of the screen.
Those who make a physical presence at CES 2022 are privileged to experience this Samsung prototype firsthand. Therefore, they are one of the first in the world to contact what could be the future of smartphones.
Please note that the product shown in the video is only a prototype designed for public demonstration. We do not know when Samsung will launch this technology to the market and the final product could be very different from what we see here.
