Samsung has unveiled a new Mixed Reality (XR) headset display that features a technology called “ OLEDoS (OLED on silicon), which is created by applying organic materials to a silicon wafer.
With a 1.03″ diagonalis the first OLEDoS display with an RGB subpixel structure and features a 3,500 dpi pixel density. Samsung doesn't reveal the resolution, but it should be around 2,550 x 2,550 pixels. We also don't know what the refresh rate is.
The screen was created by eMagin, an American display manufacturer that Samsung acquired a few months ago. This company specializes in the production of night vision goggles and helmets for military use, which also use OLEDoS panels.
When Samsung announces a product, it usually happens because Samsung plans to use it in at least one of its products. So expect an XR headset from Samsung soon. That wouldn't be surprising considering its arch-rival Apple launched Vision Pro, it wouldn't be surprising either
Additionally, Qualcomm recently announced the chip Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 for XR scopes, which also suggests that Samsung could launch one of these devices.
