As you may know, it is possible since an update rolled out in September 2021 to add an additional M.2 NVMe SSD on its PS5 to expand the storage capacity of the console. It must be said that with only Approximately 660 GB of available memory, we can quickly reach saturation, especially with games that can easily reach 100 GB.

One of the conditions established by Sony is to opt for an SSD equipped with a heat sink. The goal is to keep the component at a low temperature to allow high write speeds. While some manufacturers offered SSDs compatible with the next-gen console with an integrated cooling system, this was not the case with Samsung. Indeed, the South Korean brand did offer an SSD, namely the 980 Pro, but it did not have a heat sink. It was therefore up to the user to buy one and then install it on the SSD before inserting everything into the slot provided for this purpose in the console.

Samsung wants to woo PS5 gamers with this super-fast SSD

In order to make life easier for PS5 gamers, Samsung has just announced the launch a new model of the M.2 NVMe 980 Pro SSD which this time includes a heat sink.
