Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra front camera with lower resolution but more physical megapixels

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra
The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is considered one of the best photography smartphones available in the market.

According to rumors, Samsung could replace the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 40-megapixel front-facing camera with one with a significantly lower resolution of 12-megapixels. This information can create some confusion, but the same sources advance that the new 12-megapixel sensor can provide larger physical pixels.

If confirmed, this means that although the sensor has a much lower resolution, it can guarantee excellent real quality, perhaps close to what happens now with the front sensor with higher resolution.

Alternatively, Samsung may keep the same 40-megapixel sensor and provide it with new features to go along with the extraordinary photography capabilities expected from the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s rear camera module.

At this point, the rumors do not reach a consensus. But since there are still a few months to go before the launch of the new series -scheduled for February 2023-, it is likely that more concrete revelations will be released by the end of the year.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with custom 200 megapixel sensor

In fact, ISOCELL HP1 is already commercially available in premium smartphones from Motorola and Xiaomi. But it seems that Samsung wants to innovate and will integrate a custom sensor into its Galaxy S23 Ultra that will be the middle ground between the two mentioned sensors.

According to published information, the S23 Ultra’s 200-megapixel sensor will be 1/1.3-inch in size, with 0.6μm pixels and an f/1.7 aperture.

On the other hand, this custom sensor will also feature substantial improvements to night mode combined with new image processing technologies, ultimately bringing plenty of light in low-light environments. The result: quality night images packed with sharpness and detail.

Recall that the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s rear camera setup is expected to be equipped with a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens, and a 10-megapixel periscope telephoto sensor with optical zoom. 10x.

With all these attributes, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra risks being the new king of photography. It should at least outperform its arch-rival iPhone 14 Pro with a 48-megapixel primary, 12-megapixel ultra-wide and 12-megapixel telephoto sensor, and 3x optical zoom.
