Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Its wireless charging is 33% slower than that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra

Wireless charging on the Galaxy S23 series is slower than older Galaxy S22 phones according to tests done by PhoneArena.

The site compared the wireless charging of the six models – the Galaxy S22 and S23 base, Plus and Ultra — and came to the conclusion that “All three new members of the Galaxy S23 series charge significantly slower than the Galaxy S22 series based on our testing.”

The worst model to come out of the test is the flagship Galaxy S23 Ultra. The S23 Ultra and S22 Ultra have 5,000mAh batteries and 15W wireless charging, but even with official chargers, the new phone was much slower.

The S22 Ultra took 1 hour and 58 minutes to fully charge using the wireless charger, while the S23 took 33% longer at 2 hours and 37 minutes. The phone shows an overall reduction in charging speeds that was never reflected in Samsung’s spec sheet.

The changes in the base and Plus models from year to year are less relevant, as they also came with larger capacity batteries, so naturally the newer models take longer to charge. The two cheapest S23 models added 200mAh of battery capacity and an extra 15 minutes of wireless charging time.
