With 5G still taking its first steps in Portugal, news is coming from abroad about what the technology can offer. We all knew its incredible speeds by now, but Samsung and Qualcomm have just set a new record.
In a connection test carried out in a laboratory in the state of Texas, in the USA, the companies managed to achieve incredible 8.08 Gbps download. In fact, this is the new maximum that the new mobile network standard has already proven capable of achieving.
Samsung and Qualcomm record an incredible 8.08 Gbps of download
This new milestone was achieved using the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF system developed by Qualcomm. The American technology company made this device available to Samsung so that the latter could develop this test at 5G speeds.
It is important to note that the 8.08 Gbps download was achieved within a lab. This test used technology New dual radio connectivity which combines mmWave and midband networks at frequencies of 800 MHz and 100 MHz, respectively.
In short, we can say that this test was developed in a controlled environment and with perfect conditions. Something that on a day-to-day basis can be difficult to recreate.
Still, testing by these two tech giants reveals the full potential 5G mobile networks can offer. We now know that it is possible to exceed 8 Gbps in mobile network download speeds.
Whether the Portuguese user will ever be able to enjoy these speeds is something that we still cannot answer. For now, the main concern is having access to the new standard for mobile networks.
The main telecommunications operators operating in Portugal have already started to launch their 5G connection proposals. Until January 31, operators offer this modality to their customers as an incentive to subscribe to their 5G packages.
