Sampaoli’s gesture: Release Acuña and Papu Gómez to join the National Team

Lionel Scaloni can look at the glass half empty or half full: Alejandro “Papu” Gómez and Marcos Acuña, two players who always make up his calls, will not be in the match that Seville will play this Wednesday against Real Sociedad due to bothersomeness, which adds up to two new concerns less than two weeks before the World Cup debut. However, the positive is that both players will now be released to join the team’s practices in Qatar.

Santafesino coach Jorge Sampaoli had said on Tuesday at a press conference that both players ended Sunday’s classic against Betis with discomfort, so they were left out of the squad for the match that will start at 3 pm in Argentina.

The club did not give a medical report but in the report of the last training session it stated that both Gómez and Acuña were with “various discomforts”. Right back Gonzalo Montiel will also not be available since he was sent off in the Andalusian classic and received three suspension dates.

This will be the last commitment of the Andalusian team for the Spanish LaLiga and on Sunday they have a match for the Copa del Rey against Velarde, from the Spanish sixth division, but Sampaoli already announced that he was going to release the affected footballers before the Qatar 2022 World Cup. In this way, Gómez, Acuña and Montiel will be able to join the concentration of the Argentine team in Qatar before the weekend.
