Salman Khan is knee-deep in filming his new movie, Sikandar. He recently dished out his thoughts on the state of pan-Indian cinema. For him, it all starts with a solid script – something Bollywood is currently lacking. He also touched on the challenges of matching the success of South Indian films.
At a press event in Mumbai for Sikandar’s trailer launch, Salman pointed out that while Bollywood fans flock to see South Indian films, the reverse isn’t always true. “We accept their films, but that hasn’t happened yet with ours,” he said.
South Indian Fans Stay Loyal
Salman believes making big-budget films is a big responsibility that requires a strong script. He’s worked with numerous South Indian technicians, directors, and actors, but his films haven’t quite hit the same mark in the South. The reason? Fans there are fiercely loyal to their own stars.
Salman noted that even though people in the South recognize him and show respect, getting them to watch his films in theaters is a tougher sell. South Indian films have gained popularity in the North, but Bollywood films haven’t received the same response in the South.
Bollywood Struggles in the South
The discrepancy is clear: South Indian films are making waves nationwide, but Bollywood films are struggling to replicate that success in the South. Salman’s comments highlight the challenges of creating a pan-Indian film that resonates with audiences across the country.
Sikandar Hits Theaters on March 30
Sikandar, starring Salman alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Satyraj, is set to release on March 30, 2025. The film’s trailer has already generated buzz, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release. Will Sikandar be the film to bridge the gap between Bollywood and the South? Only time will tell.
