Sai Sudharsan Joins Elite List in IPL with Over 700 Runs

Sai Sudharsan is on fire. He’s just joined the elite group of players who’ve scored over 700 runs in a single IPL season. Sudharsan achieved this feat in the eliminator match against Mumbai Indians, making him the first player to cross 700 runs in IPL 2025. As a result, he’s currently leading the race for the Orange Cap.

Before the Mumbai Indians match, Sudharsan had already racked up 679 runs in 14 matches. He needed just 21 runs to reach the 700-run milestone, which he easily achieved. Only two other Indian batsmen, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, have scored 700 or more runs in a single IPL season.

Sudharsan’s impressive performance against Mumbai Indians included a half-century, his sixth in IPL 2025. He’s also scored a century this season. His personal best is getting better with each passing season. Last season, he scored 527 runs, and his current form has earned him a spot in the Indian Test team for the England tour.

Players with 700+ runs in a single IPL season

  • Virat Kohli – 973 runs (2016)
  • Shubman Gill – 890 runs (2023)
  • Jos Buttler – 863 runs (2022)
  • David Warner – 848 runs (2016)
  • Virat Kohli – 741 runs (2024)
  • Kane Williamson – 735 runs (2018)
  • Chris Gayle – 733 runs (2012)
  • Michael Hussey – 733 runs (2013)
  • Faf du Plessis – 730 runs (2023)
  • Chris Gayle – 708 runs (2013)

Sudharsan is currently way ahead in the Orange Cap race, with 60 runs separating him from second-placed Suryakumar Yadav, who has 673 runs. Sudharsan’s consistent performance has made him a strong contender for the top spot. Will he continue to dominate the batting charts, or will someone else challenge his lead? Only time will tell.
