It takes a certain kind of grit to bounce back after a big setback. Imagine pouring years of your life into a creative project, only for it to be canceled. That’s exactly what happened to a group of game developers recently. But instead of throwing in the towel, they decided to start fresh, forming a brand new team to build games their way.
This new venture is called Sackbird Studios. They just announced their formation in a recent social media post, introducing themselves to the world. The independent studio calls Baltimore, Maryland, home. It’s a place built by friends who have spent many years crafting game worlds and stories.
Hello, World. 👋
Today we’re proud to announce Sackbird Studios — an independent game studio based in Baltimore, Maryland, built by friends who’ve spent years designing worlds, systems, and stories for players everywhere.https://t.co/1jmlgteUM2#indiedev #videogames— sackbirdstudios (@sackbirdstudios) October 8, 2025
The ten members of Sackbird Studios are experienced developers. Many of them previously worked on big titles like The Elder Scrolls Online. They also contributed to an online game called Project Blackbird. Unfortunately, Microsoft decided to stop its development around the middle of last year. That’s a tough blow for any creative team.
Despite that disappointment, their passion for games shines through. Sackbird Studios plans to create entirely new games for both consoles and PCs. After years of working on large AAA projects, they craved more freedom. They wanted to make games without the constant pressure of hitting quarterly goals. The team owns their company and started it using their own money. Their main aim is to deliver games for truly passionate video game players. This vision comes from their long history in the industry, as reported by Gematsu.
We don’t have many details about what their first game will be just yet. Sackbird Studios has said they will share more information about their new project in the future. We’ll be watching closely to see what these seasoned developers cook up next.
