Sabana Grande de Boyá will host the XXXIX National Youth Tournament

Some 80 boxers will compete in the 39th version of the National Youth Boxing Tournament, which will be staged from the 26th to the 29th of this month at the Dr. Fidel Mejía multipurpose venue in Sabana Grande Boyá, Monte Plata province, with a special dedication to the El Buen Samaritano Foundation.

The journalist Primitivo Cadete, in his capacity as president of the Monte Plata Province Boxing Association, highlighted that the athletes who will take part in the tournament have been the best of the more than 600 who participated in the regional qualifiers.

“The boxers we will have will be the natural replacement for those who are in the national team today and who in the near future will represent us in the Central American and Pan American tournaments and the Olympic Games,” said Cadete at a press conference held at the James Rodríguez Hall of the Ministry of Sports, an institution that is once again supporting the tournament.

He specified that the fair will begin on the 26th of this month with the arrival of the six participating delegations and that the competitions will take place on the 27th, 28th and 29th between the teams from the North, East, South, National District, Santo Domingo Province and the hosts of Monte Plata.

He stated that this municipality will not only have a great organizational challenge, but that its fighters will also have to face the teams from each area of ​​the country.

He stressed that once again Sabana Grande de Boyá will host the National Youth Boxing Tournament, and that the first time it hosted it was in 2001 and recalled that it was there that Félix Díaz obtained his first gold medal.

He indicated that seven years later, at the Beijing Olympics, where Díaz became the second Dominican athlete to achieve a gold medal and the first born in the country, since Félix Sánchez, born in the United States, began the path in the Athens 2004 event.

On his side, the engineer Garibaldy Bautista, president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, praised the work carried out by the different sports associations, from which the federations are nourished.

He pointed out that boxing and weightlifting were precisely the disciplines that gave the country the first gold medals and those that marked the critical path for them to exceed by four the 107 that were reached in the previous Central American Games in Barranquilla (2018).

In the activity, the Administrative Vice Minister of Miderec, Franklin de la Mota, also spoke, who predicted success to the contest due to the teamwork that all the parties involved have been doing.

For his part, Ramón Leonardo, from the Dominican Boxing Federation (Fedoboxa), praised the commendable work carried out by Cadete at the head of the entity that governs this discipline in the municipality.

“It would be very important that each boxing association in the country have a president like Primitivo Cadete,” he emphasized.

The governor of Monte Plata, Rafaela Gomera, and Isidro Mesa, mayor of Sabana Grande de Boyá, agreed to emphasize that all the participants will be treated with the human warmth that characterizes the people from Monte Plata.

For his part, Juan Salas, executive director of the Civil Defense, stated that, as a native of that municipality, he is committed to the success of the tournament and announced that they will mount an operation to attend to emergencies that may arise.

Moisés Sifren, head of the El Buen Samaritano Foundation, a non-profit entity that operates in La Romana, thanked the dedication and stressed that they will allocate medicines worth 70 million to deal with the most common diseases of vulnerable sectors during the days of the event.

Also present at the press conference were the immortal of Dominican sports Bienvenido Solano, president of Ad Vitam of Fedoboxa, as well as Fausto Severino, Carlos Silié, Carmen Leyda Mora and other members of the tournament organizing committee.
