Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will visit Cuba on April 19 as part of a tour of Latin American countries, the island’s Foreign Ministry reported on Sunday.

The visit of the head of Russian diplomacy will take place on the same date that Parliament will hold the election of the Cuban president, in which Miguel Díaz-Canel could be re-elected for five more years.

During his stay on the island, Lavrov "will hold talks with Cuban authorities and carry out other activities of interest"said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a brief statement posted on its website.

The Latin American tour of the Russian foreign minister will be from April 17 to 21 and will also include visits to Brazil, Venezuela and Nicaragua, countries in which he will promote cooperation in the political, commercial, economic and cultural fields, reported Prensa Latina.
