Russia ordered to close the representation of Deutsche Welle in Moscow

Russia ordered this Thursday the closure of the office of the chain Deutsche Welle (DW) in Moscow. The measure includes a ban on passing their programs. It is a retaliation for the interdiction of the Russian channel Russia Today (RT), which is not allowed to broadcast on German territory.

The decision of the government of Vladimir Putin was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A statement disclosed the “retaliatory measures” taken by Moscow, including the “closure of the local office” of Deutsche Welle, the “withdrawal of accreditation of all employees” and “the interruption of broadcasts”. on Russian soil.

Penalties come after Germany’s regulatory body banned broadcasts in German of the Russian network RT, both on its website and in a mobile application. RT satellite broadcasts have already been interrupted in December at the request of the German authorities.
