Russia’s relentless assault on Ukraine has claimed at least 13 lives and left 56 injured. The attacks started on Friday, with drones and missiles targeting multiple areas.
The Ukrainian air force reported over 250 drones and 14 missiles were used, with six missiles intercepted and 245 drones destroyed. Despite this, the attacks caused significant damage, including fires and destroyed buildings.
In the capital city of Kyiv, 14 people were injured, and several residential buildings were damaged. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that each attack confirms Moscow is responsible for the prolonged war.
Aftermath of the Attack
The attack damaged several buildings, including two schools and a clinic. Four people died in the Donetsk region, five in the Odessa and Kherson regions, and four in the Kharkiv region. Local officials reported that a drone attacked the port infrastructure in Odessa, while residential buildings, facilities, and apartments were damaged throughout Ukraine.
The attacks also led to the displacement of over 100 people from the front lines.
The recent attack occurred while both countries were exchanging prisoners, with 1,000 from each side, following an agreement in Istanbul. Ukraine and Russia exchanged 390 prisoners on Friday, and another exchange is expected on Sunday.
Zelensky described the night as difficult, with fires and explosions across Ukraine, resulting in damaged homes, businesses, and cars. He emphasized that tougher sanctions targeting Russia’s key economic sectors are necessary to push Russia to agree to a ceasefire.
Previous Attacks
Last week, Russia claimed Ukraine had sent hundreds of drones to attack several areas, including Moscow. The Russian defense ministry reported that many Ukrainian drones were destroyed during this time.
