Russia Ukraine War: Russia attacked Ukraine’s capital Kyiv early on Sunday. Giving this information, the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaly Klitschko, said that at least two residential buildings were targeted in this attack. At the same time, Russian troops have strengthened their hold in the eastern part of Ukraine. A reporter for the Associated Press news agency in Kyiv saw rescue workers trying to douse the flames. Kyiv Mayor Klitschko said four injured people were taken to hospital and a seven-year-old girl was pulled alive from the rubble.
“A gesture before the NATO meeting”
Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko wrote on the Telegram app that according to preliminary data, at least 14 missiles were fired at Kyiv. Kyiv had not faced such Russian attacks since June 5, before the attacks early Sunday. Klitschko said he believed it may have been a gesture ahead of the NATO meeting in Madrid this week. Two more explosions were heard later in Kyiv, but the number of possible casualties is not yet clear.

Meanwhile, Russian troops are trying to capture the rest of Ukraine’s stronghold in the eastern Lushank region. Russian troops are intensifying their efforts to take complete control of the ruins of Sverodontsk and the chemical plant where hundreds of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians are hiding. Serhiy Haidai, the governor of the Lushank region, said on Sunday that Russia was launching strong attacks on the city of Lyaschansk. There his television tower is destroyed and a bridge has also been seriously damaged. “There has been a lot of destruction in the city,” the governor said in a post on Facebook.
