Russia is calling for a special session of the UN Council after accusing Ukraine of shooting down a plane

United Nations.- Russia has called an emergency meeting of the Security Council this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. local time (8:00 p.m. GMT) after accusing Ukraine of shooting down an Il-76 military transport aircraft, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said a press conference at the United Nations.

According to the official version from Moscow, 65 Ukrainian soldiers – prisoners who were to be exchanged for Russian troops captured by Kiev – died in the incident, three Russian guards and six crew members. Lavrov called it “a terrorist attack.”

France, as President-in-Office of the Council, must respond to this last-minute request.

Asked whether he planned to present evidence of the Russian thesis before the council, Lavrov did not answer, but said he was not worried that his version would be questioned by Western media, which he described as systematically “biased” against Russia designated.

For now, Ukraine has only admitted that an exchange of prisoners of war was planned, but remains silent about its involvement in the incident.
