Russia attacks Zaporiya after bridge explosion

Russia attacked Zaporizhia yesterday again and did so 24 hours after the explosion that caused damage to the Crimean bridge and the same day that Moscow officially accused the Ukrainian secret services of being behind this “terrorist act”, which is a new setback for Moscow’s fragile war logistics.

The Russian Armed Forces launched twelve missiles on Zaporizhia, in a new attack on civilian infrastructure that caused at least 13 deaths and more than 50 injuries, including eleven children, according to the governor of the southern region, Oleksandr Starukh.

Third attack in 10 days

Zaporizhia again. Ruthless blows against peaceful people again. In residential buildings, right in the middle of the night,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

“Absolute evil. Savages and terrorists. From the one who gave this order to all those who fulfilled it. They will take responsibility for sure. Before the law and before the people”, he stressed.

His Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and the Defense Ministry urgently asked the West for more modern air and missile defense systems.

This is the third missile attack in ten days against Zaporizhia, after last Thursday’s bombardment that killed 20 Ukrainians and the missiles fired on September 30 against a humanitarian convoy that claimed 32 lives.

Putin called the explosion a “terrorist act” against civilian infrastructure of critical importance to Russia. “The perpetrators, executors and clients are the secret service of Ukraine,” he said in a meeting with the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexandr Bastrikin.

Putin, who has convened a meeting of the Security Council for Monday, ordered the FSB on Saturday to strengthen the protection of infrastructure.

Zelenski, ironic on Saturday night about the explosion with a message of meteorological content: today it was “cloudy in Crimea”, but also “hot”. “This is a future without occupants. Throughout our territory, in particular in Crimea, ”he stressed.
