Russia Accuses Wargaming, Lesta Executives of Supporting Ukraine with Extreme Activities

Russian authorities have seized the assets of Lesta Group, the company behind World of Warships in Russia. The move comes after allegations that two executives, Viktor Kisly and Malik Khatazhaev, were involved in “extremist activities” related to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Background of the Conflict

Wargaming, the original developer of World of Warships, cut ties with Russia and Belarus in 2022 following the invasion. The company stopped its services in both countries and handed over operations to Lesta Games. Wargaming also fired an employee who supported Russia’s actions.

Wargaming’s Response to the Invasion

In 2023, Wargaming raised over $1 million from in-game item sales themed around Ukraine. The funds were used to purchase ambulances for Ukraine. Wargaming claims it has no connection to Lesta Games since March 31, 2022, and has no assets or business interests in Russia or Belarus.

Aftermath and Reactions

Lesta Games has stated that it will cooperate with law enforcement to resolve the situation. Wargaming confirmed that it has no assets or business interests in Russia or Belarus since 2022. The company’s headquarters are now located in Cyprus.

The news was first reported by RIA Novosti, a Russian state-owned news agency, and later covered by PC Gamer.
