Chemical Terrorism: Several Russian soldiers involved in military operations in Ukraine have been hospitalized due to severe chemical poisoning. The Russian Defense Ministry gave this information on Saturday. Accusing Kyiv of “chemical terrorism”, the ministry said that traces of botulinum toxin type B, a biological poison of artificial origin, have been found in samples taken from soldiers. Russian soldiers were hospitalized with signs of severe poisoning after being stationed near the village of Vasilyevka in the Zaporozhye region on July 31, the statement said.
“The Zelensky regime has authorized terrorist attacks with the use of toxic substances against Russian personnel and civilians,” the ministry stressed. Moscow plans to send laboratory tests from troops to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). Botulinum venom, often called the ‘miracle poison’, is one of the most toxic biological substances known to science. Made by Clostridium botulinum bacteria, it blocks the release of the acetylcholine neurotransmitter, which causes muscle paralysis.
used in the treatment of type A
Botulinum toxin type A has been used in medicine in small doses in recent decades, particularly to treat disorders characterized by overactive muscle movement. It is also known in cosmetology under its abbreviation, Botox. However, botulinum toxin poses a major threat as a bioweapon due to the ease of production and distribution and the high mortality rate resulting from toxicity. RT pointed out that recovery is possible only after a long period of intensive care.
Ukraine, on the other hand, has expressed concern about Europe’s largest Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. The recent intensification of bombings at the Russian-held plant has raised concerns about international security. Ukrainian personnel operate the large plant under tight control and under pressured conditions. Russia and Ukraine are blaming each other for the continuing attacks and the damage. Misinformation and fake news have played an important role in this conflict and therefore it is not yet known what the circumstances are.
less likely to cause harm
Right now it seems unlikely that either side would want to seriously damage Europe’s largest nuclear plant by leaking radioactive material. Ukrainian personnel working at the plant claimed that Russia was deliberately targeting non-critical equipment. A deliberate attack on a nuclear plant would violate international rules.
The plant is not like Chernobyl, the site of the world’s biggest nuclear disaster. Chernobyl was like an old reactor. It is also cooled with water, like Zhoporrizzia, but contains a large amount of graphite for ‘neutron refining’. Neutron purification is essential for the operation of the reactor.
