Ruben Amorim: “Immediately Knew We’d Struggle” at Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim reflected on his challenging first year at the club, admitting he immediately recognized the team would face difficulties in the highly competitive Premier League.

Speaking to reporters ahead of an upcoming league fixture against Everton, Amorim described his initial impressions upon arriving in England. He found the Premier League atmosphere “different” and was excited by the prospect.

“I immediately realized we would have difficulties in some things,” Amorim stated. He added, “I had the feeling that yes, it was the best league and the best club in the world.”

The Portuguese coach acknowledged the role was “a great challenge and would require a lot of work.”

His one-year anniversary as Manchester United’s head coach will be marked on Monday, November 24. His debut match concluded in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich.

Amorim noted the team is “showing improvements” but warned against forgetting their past struggles. “We cannot forget that we started at that point and suffered a lot last year,” he said.

He emphasized the need to approach every match with intense focus. “We have to play each game as if it were the last or the first.”

Looking ahead, Amorim expressed a desire for a team with “more control and more dominance, playing better football.” He underscored the importance of being “more competitive in all aspects.”

Manchester United currently occupies seventh place in the Premier League standings. Amorim, however, downplayed the significance of their position.

“In the Premier League, the table doesn’t matter because everything is so balanced that it becomes irrelevant,” he asserted.

He also dismissed the idea that upcoming matches against lower-ranked teams would be easier. “If you know the history of our team, you know that you never know when a game will be difficult,” he concluded.
