Ruben Amorim Denies Benfica Contacts, Quips Mourinho Will Have Fun

Ruben Amorim completely focused on Manchester United

The football rumor mill was spinning fast, linking Manchester United’s coach, Ruben Amorim, with a return to Benfica. Whispers suggested João Noronha Lopes, a candidate for Benfica’s presidency, wanted to bring Amorim back to take over the Eagles. But Amorim, never one to shy away from a direct answer, quickly put those rumors to bed. He did so with a straightforward denial and a hint of a smile during his press conference, held before Manchester United’s Saturday match against Chelsea.

“There has been no contact,” Amorim stated clearly. He made it plain where his focus lies. “I am Manchester United’s coach, and that’s where I’ll stay until something changes.” He also offered a glimpse into his distant future, adding, “After that, whether it’s tomorrow, next month, or ten years from now, I will definitely take a rest because I’ll have earned it.” He then simply repeated, “there was no contact at all.”

Amorim wrapped up the whole conversation with a playful remark about Benfica’s current coach. He reminded everyone that the Eagles already have a seasoned leader at the helm. “Mourinho is there now,” Amorim noted, “and he’s going to enjoy himself.” It was a neat way to close the book on the speculation.
