While the prices of the latest RTX 3000 and AMD RX 6000 began to drop, GPU prices are on the rise again, as explained by the specialized site 3D Center. However, the increase remains slight, which gives hope for a further decrease in the near future.
We talked about it many times during the month of August 2021. To the good surprise of consumers, the prices of the Radeon RX 6000 and RTX 3000 have started to drop. We are still a long way from recommended retail prices, but we were on the right track. Thus, an RX 6900 XT was negotiated around € 1,489, or € 200 less than at the end of July 2021. On the side of Nvidia, the prices of certain models were intended to be quite close to the recommended retail price, with higher rates of only 15%.
However, as we learned from our colleagues from the 3D Center site on Monday, August 30, 2021, the prices of the latest GPUs are unfortunately experiencing a further increase. According to their latest report on the GPU market, Nvidia’s cards have seen their price drop to 164% of the RRP instead of 159%. Same story at AMD, with an overall price increase of around 3%.
It is important to point out, however, that 3D Center’s analyzes relate only to the German market, and therefore do not reflect a global trend. Also, their data does not include RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 3080 Ti, and RX 6600 XT. These cards are newer and still cost more than cards launched in 2020, including them would only skew the results.
GPU prices go up due to lack of availability
According to 3D Center, the decrease in the supply of the oldest GPUs of the current generation could explain this price increase. It must be said that AMD’s RX 6800 is still untraceable, while it is still just as complicated to get your hands on an RTX 3070, 3080 or 3090 without leaving a kidney there. Besides, Nvidia is currently promoting Ti variants models mentioned above, which may also explain this lower availability for the first Ampere models.
As a reminder, Nvidia has confirmed that the RTX 3000 will remain out of stock until 2022. This is in any case what group boss Jensen Huang announced during the presentation of the group’s financial results for the second quarter. 2021. For him, the difficulties surrounding the supply of components and in particular of semiconductors will continue. And with them, Nvidia’s difficulties in producing and responding favorably to strong demand.
