Royals win Game 1 of Finals with 16-0 rally

A big rally in the fourth quarter gave the Royals of La Vega an 85-76 victory over the Titanes of the National District, in the first game of the Grand Final of the LNB Super League held at the Palacio de los Deportes Fernando Teruel.

The Titans led by 7 (69-62) in the fourth quarter, when Justin Jackson had a layup with 8:05 left. From there came a spectacular 16-0 run that propelled the Royals to victory, which was completed with a basket by Quade Green with 4:00 remaining that put the score at 78-69.

With 1:16 remaining to conclude the game, Jaelyn Johnson scored a triple that brought the Titans within 4 (76-80). A step back shot by Gelvis Solano distanced the Royals by 6 (82-76) with 54 seconds. On the next possession, Luis Montero missed a triple, Green grabbed the rebound and from then on there were no complications for the vegans to defend the house.

Charles Thomas had 21 points and 9 rebounds to be the most outstanding for those led by DanielMaffei, who had 17 points, 7 assists and 4 sacks from Solano. Antonio Peña left with 13 points and 9 rebounds, Miguel Simón added 11 in scoring and Timmy Bond 10 for the winners.

For the Titans, Jackson stood out with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Richard Bautista scored 13, gave 5 assists and 2 steals, while Jassel Pérez had a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards. Montero also added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

The Royals threw 47.0 percent in the game, compared to 42.1 percent for the Titans. They dominated the points in the paint 46-40 and the scoring on second chances 14-11. Also 19-18 assists. The Blues were superior 37-19 in points off the bench and 42-39 in rebounds.

In free throws, the Royals excelled as they shot 18-of-22 for 81.8 percent. The Titans barely went to the “scare line” four times, each scoring a basket.
