The V edition of the Robotic Online Short Film Festival (ROS Film Festival) will pre-release the film “Robot Dreams” by Pablo Berger out of competition on November 24th.

The award-winning director’s film thrilled audiences at the Cannes Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the Sitges Fantastic Film Festival. “Robot Dreams,” produced by Arcadia Motion Pictures, with whom the director previously worked on “Snow White” and “Abracadabra,” hits theaters on December 6th.
He will attend the preview of the film in Alicante the composer of the soundtrack, Alfonso Vilallonga, who, like the director, has several Goya Awards in his track record.

“Robot Dreams” will be shown on November 24th at the Teatre Arniches, which, together with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA), will host the main activities of the ROS Film Festival at the end of November. The world’s first festival for science fiction short films featuring robots. The ROS, which celebrates its fifth edition this year, aims to disseminate stories in which robots and artificial intelligences, alone or accompanied by humans, are the protagonists.
The festival takes place from November 16th to 27th in different parts of the city of Alicante and offers various activities during the festival.
60 short films selected

A total of 60 short films selected from more than thirty countries, showcasing dystopias, robots, artificial intelligence, addictive metaverses and occasionally an insanely critical and deeply biting sense of humor. It is not for nothing that the ROS performances begin on November 16th at “Viva la Pepa” with the compilation “Love, Sex and Robots”, enlivened by the artist Lidia Na. On Friday the 17th, a special session of short films by the Cuban School of Animation (Animados ICAIC) will take place at the Fahrenheit 451 bookstore, while the third day of the session will take place in Room 8 and ½, where the video art pieces will be shown on Saturday the 18. received. In all these cases, entry is free until capacity is reached.
“Control Freak” by Kulu Orr
The ROS Film Festival includes two performing arts shows in its program that focus on technology. In the first piece, Kulu Orr’s “Control Freak,” a funny and moving character attempts to interact with the audience while struggling with his social ineptitude and the complex systems on stage. On the other hand, the arrival of the robot “Perseverance” on Mars served as an inspiration for the Marroch dance company from Alicante. In “Perseverance,” the piece not only brings dance to a younger audience, but also depicts a dystopian world that helps us become aware of the state of our planet. “Control Freak” and “Perseverance” take place at the Teatre Arniches on November 25th and 26th, respectively. – Tickets .
Artistic exercise workshop in the age of artificial intelligence
Another highlight of the festival is the workshop “Artistic Practice in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. From Sempere to Our Days”, which Daniel García Andújar will teach at MACA. It will explore the enormous possibilities that new technologies offer the artistic field, while paying tribute to a visionary who pushed these boundaries long before they became trendy: Eusebio Sempere. The workshop will take place on November 23rd and 24th at 4 p.m.

For children and young people
As activities for children and young people, a special selection of short films with robots suitable for minors will be shown on the 20th in Aigües de Busot and Crevillente, along with workshops where participants can familiarize themselves with cinema and robotics practice. The party is for adults only and takes place on the 23rd at Söda Bar. Under the entertainment of Lorena Sánchez from QUO and in the presence of several festival guests, the audience will be able to enjoy the music videos presented in the competition.
All audiovisual works are part of the official selection of the ROS, where a jury composed of Javier Ordoñez, Professor of History of Science at the Autonomous University of Madrid and President of the Jury; Lorena Sánchez, editor-in-chief of QUO magazine; Daniel García Andújar, pioneer of NetArt in Spain; Natalia Pérez-Galdós, author and science communicator, and Edite Felgueiras, science communicator at CERN and director of the Braga Science Festival, will award prizes worth 2,000 euros. The ROS Film Festival is an original idea by El Kaleidoscopio and is financed by the Cultural Department of the Alicante City Council and the Institut Valencià de Cultura of the Generalitat Valenciana.
