Roko Baturina is a striker whose future at Gil Vicente looks quite cloudy. The 25-year-old Croatian just doesn’t fit into manager César Peixoto’s plans. But it seems a fresh start might be just around the corner for him.
Word from Italy suggests a new home could be Spezia. That club plays in the Italian second tier. Transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio broke the news. He reported that Gil Vicente and Spezia are now talking. They hope to reach an agreement for the forward. Baturina only recently returned to Barcelos. He was on loan at Málaga for a while before coming back this summer.
If Baturina does move, it would mark another player off Gil Vicente’s “not needed” list. The club is busy trying to shift extra players before the transfer window closes. João Teixeira, for example, already packed his bags and headed to Chaves. Central defender Josué Sá is also training apart from the main squad. He too is expected to find a new club soon.
Baturina himself joined Gil Vicente from Ferencvaros in the summer of 2023. His time with the club has been rather brief. He played just 19 games, scoring three goals and assisting one. Then, in January 2024, he went out on loan to Santander. He was also loaned to Málaga last season. Now, he’s back with Gil Vicente for this current season, but likely not for long.
