Rokas Jokubaitis, chosen as the best young player in the Euroleague

Barça point guard Rokas Jokubaitis has been named the best young player in the Euroleague 2021-22 after the vote made by the coaches of the participating teams. In his first season at the Catalan club, the 21-year-old Lithuanian player has played a total of 35 games to date in the top European competition with an average of 7.2 points and 2.8 assists in 17 minutes per game.

Jokubaitis’s best game this season was against his former team, Zalgiris Kaunas, at the Palau Blaugrana, when he scored 15 points and dished out 7 assists. In terms of evaluation, his best performance was in his European debut at the Palau Blaugrana against Alba Berlin, with 12 points and 21 credits. Jokubaitis outvoted centers Victor Wembanyama of ASVEL Villeurbanne and Marek Blazevic of Zalgiris Kaunas.

ALBA Berlin players Jonas Mattisseck and Malte Delow, Real Madrid point guard Carlos Alcocen and ASVEL game director Matthew Strazel also received the coaches’ votes. ANDhe first Barça player to receive this award, known as ‘Rising Star’, was Ricky Rubio in the 2009-10 season, the year in which the Catalan club achieved the second Euroleague in its history.

In the 2015-16 academic year, Barça player Álex Abrines also won itwhile Nikola Mirotic, when he was a member of Real Madrid, was the best youngster in the competition two seasons in a row (2010-11 and 2011-12).
