Rohit Sharma Smashes Records Against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 Thrilling Match

Mumbai Indians thrashed Chennai Super Kings by nine wickets in their latest IPL 2025 clash, thanks to a brilliant knock from Rohit Sharma. This win marks their third consecutive victory in the season, pushing them up the points table. Rohit, who was expected to deliver a big innings after his impressive form in the previous match, finally lived up to the expectations. He smashed 76 off just 45 balls, remaining unbeaten at the crease.

Rohit’s innings was a masterclass, as he hit four fours and six sixes to guide MI to a comfortable win. He was adjudged the Player of the Match, his 20th such award in the IPL. Only Chris Gayle (25) and AB de Villiers (22) have won more Player of the Match awards than Rohit in the tournament’s history. With Gayle and de Villiers no longer playing in the IPL, Rohit is now on the cusp of breaking their records.

A Historic Feat

Rohit’s achievement against CSK is particularly noteworthy. He has now won four Player of the Match awards against the Super Kings, a feat shared with KL Rahul and Kieron Pollard. David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan have three such awards against CSK. Among these players, only Rohit and Rahul are still active in the league.

Rohit wasn’t the only one to shine for MI. Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial role, scoring 68 not out and sharing an unbroken 114-run partnership with Rohit. This was MI’s fourth century stand against CSK, with Rohit featuring in three of them. In 2012, Rohit had a 126-run partnership with Sachin Tendulkar against CSK, and he has also shared a 119-run stand with L Simmons.

Consistency is Key

Rohit’s form has been a welcome relief for MI. After a slow start to IPL 2025, he had scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, and 26. Although he was getting set, he struggled to convert his starts into big scores. However, his scores were increasing steadily, and his 76 against CSK was a much-needed big knock.

Rohit is now second on the list of highest run-scorers in the IPL, behind only Virat Kohli. He recently overtook Shikhar Dhwan (6,769) to reach 6,786 runs in the tournament. Kohli has 8,326 runs to his name. If Rohit’s form continues, it could be a significant boost for MI, a five-time champion.
