Rohit Sharma Fears Australian Pacer Scott Boland More Than Mitchell Starc or Cummins

Rohit Sharma, one of the most successful cricketers of the last decade, has amassed over 19,000 international runs. He’s known for his ability to dominate even the toughest bowlers. Sharma has faced some of the fastest and most feared bowlers in the game, including Shoaib Akhtar and Brett Lee. However, in a recent interview on the Beyond23 cricket podcast, Sharma revealed that it wasn’t these legends who gave him the most trouble.

The Bowler Who Gave Rohit Sharma Trouble

When asked about the most challenging bowler he faced during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Sharma said it was Scott Boland who gave him the most trouble. Speaking with Michael Clarke, Sharma explained that Boland’s accuracy and ability to hit the right length made him difficult to face. “We analyzed his length and tried to figure out where we could score against him. He was spot on 90 percent of the time,” Sharma said.

Sharma noted that Boland didn’t give him much room to maneuver, often bowling at a length that wasn’t too full or too short. Boland’s run-up and grip on the ball were also factors that made him challenging. Boland had replaced the injured Josh Hazlewood in the playing XI during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and took 21 wickets in just three Test matches.

Boland’s Impact on the Series

Boland was particularly effective against Virat Kohli, dismissing him four times in five innings. Since making his Test debut in 2021, Boland has taken 56 wickets in 13 matches. As for Sharma, he’s struggled to find form in the ongoing IPL 2025, managing just 56 runs in five matches so far.
