The story of Alex Amorim at Alverca is gaining buzz. This young player, just 20, joined the team this season. His strong performances for Custódio Castro’s team have caught many eyes. But for one coach, this climb isn’t a surprise at all. That coach is Roger Silva. He leads Londrina, a club in Brazil’s Série C league.
Silva was the one who first believed in Amorim’s talent. He brought him to Athletic de Minas Gerais. Amorim later moved from there to play for Alverca. Silva remembers a moment from last December. He was on vacation in Orlando, in the United States. He picked up the phone and called Amorim. He told the young player he wanted him to join Athletic.
“Amorim will be a great player here,” Silva stated, referring to the football landscape. “It truly isn’t a surprise to me.” The coach shared more thoughts. “This kid will play for a major club. He’s very serious about his work. He always puts in maximum effort.” Silva once had an important chat with Amorim. He asked him to play as a second interior midfielder. Silva felt this position would really boost his abilities. “He listened to what we asked,” Silva explained. “And he did even better. His passing skill is something few players have. He also shoots very powerfully from outside the penalty area.” Roger Silva is a clear admirer. “I am a fan of his,” he added. “I am absolutely sure he will soon be with another, more famous team.”
