Rodrigo De Paul made it clear that he will have no obstacles to play the World Cup

The midfielder of the Argentine national team Rodrigo De Paul affirmed that “there is no support” for the version about his inability to play the Qatar 2022 World Cup due to the legal situation arising from the divorce with his ex-wife Camila Homs.

The Atlético de Madrid footballer assumed that the speculations made last week, based on a statement by the AFA president, Claudio Tapia, which was misunderstood, seek to “do harm” to his sports career.

“What is said has no basis, I understand that out there it is useful to say that I am not going to play the World Cup and all the repercussions that are created, but it is absolutely incorrect,” the player clarified in a note to the América television channel.

The confusion was generated from a phrase by Claudio Tapia who warned about a FIFA regulation, which prevents a soccer player from participating in his competitions with a criminal case with a pending conviction for gender issues or the like.

De Paul, currently in a relationship with the renowned singer Tini Stoessel, has been in a legal dispute with his ex-wife since June of last year over child support. “With Camila we get along well, super well. There is nothing wrong,” he assured.

“I go out to talk because at one point I felt like someone wanted to hurt me. I don’t like it when they say that Tini appeared when she wasn’t yet separated, nor that they say that I don’t pay my children’s fees when the receipts and transfers are there… I would never do that with my children or with Camila, who is the woman who accompanied me for many years”, he clarified.

Asked about the intention of the versions fed last week, the midfielder replied: “I am going to try to say it with the greatest possible respect because I do not judge any journalist. This is a separation, there is a lawsuit and nothing more. If not, we will send people other countries to sue the players and nobody could play the World Cup”.

“I think my word has value, I never got into anyone’s life or bothered anyone. I work hard to have the career I have,” he added before ending the issue.

In relation to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, De Paul wanted to “have a great World Cup”, although for now he is concentrating on the start of the season with the club. “We are the first who are excited, but everything in due time,” he asked.

“When (Lionel) Scaloni arrived I saw that he could be part of the replacement. I always say that the greatest in this group were very important, such as Leo Messi, Nico Otamendi, Di María and Kun Agüero, and with Scaloni at the head, something slowly began to form,” he summarized about the good internal moment of the national team.

“In the previous Copa América (2019) it was clear that things were going well. From there everything began to flow. Things were always for the better and victories always help. In this process we won a Copa América, the Finalissima and we have played 33 matches without losing. The Argentine fan is enjoying it a lot and that’s the most important thing”, he concluded.

De Paul, 28, has played 41 games in the “albiceleste” shirt and will face his first World Cup in Qatar, starting on November 21.
