Robinson Canó returns with the Eastern Stars

It is a fact that veteran infielder Robinson Canó will be back with his usual club, Estrellas Orientales, for the next Dominican winter baseball tournament.

José Mallén Jr., vice president of team operations, confirmed to Listín Diario that they had reached an agreement with Canó, who turns 41 next October.

Canó has only played for his hometown team since making his league debut in the 2001-02 season.

Various network comments in recent weeks had commented that Canó would sign with another club in the league, but this signing clears up the mystery. There was also the possibility of a retirement, due to his age and his inactivity during the summer. The version of his signature was originally offered by the radio program Diamante Deportivo, from the Voice of the Armed Forces.

Last tournament, Canó played the three stages of Lidom with the greens, who lost the final against Tigres del Licey.

In 2022 he was in three major league teams, Mets, San Diego and Atlanta, but all three released him due to poor performance.

This year he is under contract with the Mets, who must pay him the sum of US$24.0 million.

Canó carries two MLB suspensions on his back for doping issues.

“Canó will end his career with his hometown team. He has achieved many things in his life, but his greatest desire is to win a championship with the Stars, ”said Mallén Jr.
