Robert Puasón, first pick of the Toros del Este, joins the practices

Shortstop Robert Puasón and pitcher Yunior Marte were part of the integrations to the training sessions of the Toros del Este this Wednesday at the Corral.

Joining them were right-handed reliever Wandisson Charles and catcher Hamlet Marte.

Puasón is a 6’3 ”shortstop for the Oakland Athletics, signed in 2019 with a $ 5.1 million bonus and is currently the organization’s 10th prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He’s a two-handed hitter with the ability to generate extra base power. His defense is premium and he has speed to steal a good amount of bases.

“He looked great in practice,” said Lino Rivera, after seeing Puasón on his first day of practice. “That boy has all the conditions and tools, it is an honor to have him with us,” he added.

Marte is wearing the orange flannel for the first time, he came to the Bulls in the offseason from the Gigantes del Cibao in exchange for the reliever Luis Santos.

The right-hander has pitched in each of the last three seasons with the Corisanos, completing 32.2 innings with 23 strikeouts, 24 hits allowed, a 2.20 lifetime ERA in Dominican baseball and is hitting just .211.

Outside of the Julián Javier Stadium, he has an ERA of 1.50 and a WHIP of 1.00 in 16 innings, with 17 strikeouts and 14 hits, limiting the opposition to a .171 average.

Charles is a reliever who belongs to the Oakland Athletics and owns a fastball that reaches 100 MPH, while Hamlet Marte was in 2021 mostly in the AAA branch of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
