Rio de Janeiro has unveiled an 80-meter-tall floating Christmas tree in Botafogo Bay, drawing large crowds and aiming to boost the city’s holiday tourism with its dazzling display.
The massive structure, illuminated by more than 2.3 million LED lights, serves as a new seasonal highlight.
It stands approximately 100 meters from the shoreline and is visible along a 700-meter stretch of Botafogo beach.
The tree’s striking appearance is amplified by its iconic backdrop, which includes Sugarloaf Mountain and the Christ the Redeemer statue atop Corcovado Mountain.
This combination creates a powerful and picturesque spectacle for evening viewers.
The unveiling ceremony featured a grand fireworks display.
This event attracted numerous residents and tourists who gathered along the bay to witness the lighting.
Tourism expert Mariana Guimarães described the atmosphere surrounding the launch as “wonderful.”
Content creator Marcos Regit characterized the experience as “amazing.”
Officials anticipate the floating tree will become a major Christmas landmark for Rio de Janeiro. It is also expected to be a popular photo opportunity for visitors throughout the holiday season.
