Ricky Rubio Returns to Joventut, 15 Years After Leaving the Club
Ricky Rubio has agreed to return to Joventut, the Catalan club where he started his professional career, 15 years after leaving the team to join FC Barcelona in 2009. According to sources close to the player, Rubio will sign an agreement with the club in the coming days.
Rubio, who has had a successful career in the NBA and Euroleague, was not included in Barcelona’s list of players with a right of first refusal, making him free to negotiate with any team. He began talks with Joventut in mid-June and, after several meetings with the club’s board and ownership, has decided to return to the Olímpic Stadium.
Return to the Olympic Stadium
Rubio’s last appearance at the Olympic Stadium was on March 24 in a Penya-Barça derby, which the blue and red team won 93-75. Before the match, the player received an emotional tribute on the video scoreboard, which he later thanked very emotionally.
The Current Squad
Joventut already has a strong squad with players such as Guillem Vives, Keye Van der Vuurst, and Devon Dotson. Rubio’s arrival would complete the team’s backcourt and provide a significant boost to the team’s chances of success.
Next Signing
In addition to Rubio’s signing, Joventut is also expected to announce the arrival of a power forward to accompany young player Michael Ruzic.
