Richelson Peña will start first game for the Giants

Los Gigantes del Cibao announced Richelson Peña as their starter for the first game of the season on Wednesday, October 27, when they visit Águilas Cibaeñas in Santiago.

The announcement was made by manager Luis Urueta, who highlighted the good physical condition of Peña, who played in the Mexican baseball league during the summer.

Peña, 28, arrived at the Gigantes del Cibao on July 21 of last year in a transaction carried out by general manager Jesús Mejía with Águilas Cibaeñas by Ramón Torres and Wendolyn Bautista.

Richelson has participated in five seasons in the league, including the last with the Gigantes del Cibao where he was 0-0 with a 2.35 ERA in the five games he pitched, where he started four of them.

In five seasons with Águilas and Gigantes, Peña has won eight games with six losses and a 2.88 ERA.

In 38 games in the league, 27 as a starter he has worked in 144 innings, where he has allowed 136 hits, with 34 walks awarded and 96 strikeouts with WHIP at 1.18.

Los Gigantes will play their first game of the season on Wednesday vs. Águilas in Santiago and then host the Leones del Escogido at home for their first game at Julián Javier on Thursday, October 28.
