Ricardo Melo Gouveia Kicks Off DP World Tour Season in Australian PGA Top 5

Portuguese golfers began the DP World Tour season strongly in Brisbane, with Ricardo Melo Gouveia positioned for a title challenge and rookie Daniel Rodrigues making a successful professional debut.

Melo Gouveia is tied for fifth place at the Australian PGA Championship after the second round on Friday. He is two strokes behind Australian leader Kazuma Kobori.

The 34-year-old recorded 134 strokes, eight under par, over 36 holes at the Royal Queensland Golf Club. This marks his eighth year as a full member of the European professional circuit.

His second round was flawless, featuring six birdies, which helped him climb 22 positions on the leaderboard. He now sits just behind a trio tied for second place.

Rookie Daniel Rodrigues, 23, secured his first career cut on the DP World Tour. He is in 22nd position.

Rodrigues finished with a total of 137 strokes, five under par, ensuring he will play the final two rounds.

He improved significantly in his second round, carding a 66 after an initial 72. This strong performance, including six birdies, saw him move up 75 places.

Rodrigues turned professional in mid-2024 and earned his tour card in mid-November. He is the sixth Portuguese golfer to become a full member of the DP World Tour.
