Life as a Coach’s Kid
Kiko Costa’s dad is his coach. Sometimes he doesn’t even call him “dad” during practice. He’ll just walk up and start talking about something.
It wasn’t always easy. When Kiko was 15, his dad coached him at Avanca. It was tough, but it prepared them for bigger things. Like when they joined Sporting.
Coach or Dad?
Is his dad a cool coach? Kiko laughs. “Sometimes.” But it’s easier now. His dad, Ricardo Costa, is a big deal in handball. Kiko’s mom, Cândida Mota, is a handball star too.
Kiko says being the coach’s son is harder than being Ricardo Costa’s son. Being the coach’s son means more pressure. He’s proud to be Ricardo’s son, though.
