Resident Evil Requiem Lands on Switch 2: Village Performance Changed Capcom’s Plans

Hold your breath, folks. Capcom recently dropped a bombshell, announcing that its upcoming horror game, Resident Evil Requiem, will be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2. This is quite a surprising move. In fact, this game likely wouldn’t have landed on Nintendo’s new console if another Resident Evil title, Village, hadn’t performed incredibly well during its initial tests.

Masato Kumazawa, the producer for Resident Evil Requiem, spilled the beans to IGN at Tokyo Game Show 2025. He explained that when Requiem first started development, Nintendo hadn’t even announced a release date for the Switch 2. Because of this uncertainty, Capcom initially had no plans to develop the game for Nintendo’s new system. You can read more about his comments here.

Once the Switch 2 officially launched, Kumazawa’s team started experimenting with the hardware. They began testing and developing games specifically for the new console. Kumazawa thought it would be “very good” if they could bring Requiem to the system too. After putting Resident Evil Village through its paces, the results were unexpectedly fantastic. The game ran incredibly smoothly, which changed everything for Capcom. This surprising success convinced them to bring Requiem to the Switch 2.

“It performed very well,” Kumazawa stated. He noted that this positive outcome led them to add the Switch 2 into their broader development plans. Gamers can also look forward to Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 8 launching on the Switch 2 around the same time as Requiem. It seems the new console has really impressed the folks at Capcom.

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026. You’ll be able to grab it on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
