Former Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, figure of the Italian right, died of leukemia at the San Raffaele hospital in Milan, June 12, 2023. Nicknamed “Il Cavaliere”, the former Italian head of government for nine years in total, profoundly changed the Italian political landscape, in particular by founding the conservative party Forza Italia in 1994. His career was marked by political and financial scandals.

He leaves behind him a very particular political style which has even sometimes been defined by a neologism: “Berlusconism”. Demagogue, “bling-bling”, ultra-liberal: Silvio Berlusconi is the figurehead of a form of populist government that has been imitated in other Western democracies in recent years.
