Rent the Runway has launched an online store with Amazon with the aim of expanding its reach beyond the subscription business model. Now, Amazon Fashion offers a wide selection of pre-used fashion products from more than 35 brands in numerous styles.
Rent the Runway suffered a subscriber slump during the pandemic, prompting a restructuring plan in September that included laying off about a quarter of its employees. Since then, the company has added new subscribers and in December raised its annual revenue outlook, noting “considerable progress” on consumer initiatives.
“Partnering with Amazon Fashion gives Rent the Runway incredible brand awareness”has indicated in a statement the Rent the Runway CEO Jennifer Hyman. “We believe that strategic relationships like this can ignite a new growth engine for our business”has assured.
In recent months other retailers such as Gap have also collaborated with Amazon Fashion to access the company’s global customer base. Amazon is one of the largest clothing retailers, but the company has long struggled to attract luxury brands. Now, for Amazon, this association represents a step forward in its current offer of resale of clothing and accessories. “At Amazon Fashion, we continually expand our assortment through strategic brand relationships to inspire and delight our customers”has declared the Amazon Fashion President Muge Erdirik Dogan.

In recent years, Amazon has increased its commitment to fashion and, in January, opened the doors of its first establishment dedicated exclusively to its clothing and footwear offer in Los Angeles under the label of AmazonStyle.
Similarly, Amazon has a section on its website dedicated exclusively to the distribution of luxury fashion, Amazon Luxurywhich launched in the United States in 2020 and introduced in Spain at the end of 2021. On the platform, the company includes luxury and premium fashion brands such as Oscar de la Renta, The Pearl, Peter Dundas, Christopher Kane Y Luke Sabbat.
