‘Religion changes over time…’ Ramanand Sagar’s son defends Om Raut’s ‘Adi Purush’

Director Om Raut’s film ‘Adipurush’ has been mired in controversy since its release as a teaser. The teaser for this film starring Prabhas, Saif Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon premiered on September 28, but criticism of the film has since started. Questions are being raised about the appearance of Hanuman and Ravana shown in the teaser. The protest against the film continues and the filmmakers are accused of hurting religious sentiments. Meanwhile, now Prem Sagar, son of Ramanand Sagar, the director of the serial ‘Ramayana’, has spoken out about ‘Adipurush’.

Ramanand Sagar’s son, Prem Sagar, recently spoke to the Times of India, where he defended the film while speaking about Adi Purush. Prem Sagar said, “How can you stop someone from doing something? Religion changes over time and Om Raut did what he thought was right.

Refusing to side with Adi Purush, Prem Sagar further said that Om Raut has not called the film ‘Ramayana’. At the same time, he has also said that if he is offered any such project, he will not do it because of his ‘education and culture’.

Significantly, Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ was broadcast by Doordarshan in the year 1987, which was highly appreciated by the audience. This show is very popular even today. At the same time, it was shown again on TV during the lockdown during Kovid. And his broadcast also received a lot of love.

Ramanand Sagar’s son Prem Sagar may have defended ‘Adipurush’, but actor Arun Govil, who played Ram in ‘Ramayana’, recently released a teaser video. He had said: “It is not right to alter the cultural and religious heritage.”
