Ahead of the expected meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia in China, Iran has appointed a new ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
Iran’s state media has confirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appointed Reza Amiri as the new ambassador to the United Arab Emirates after a gap of seven years.
Amiri was reportedly the director of the foreign ministry’s foreign affairs office and a former ambassador to Algeria, Sudan and Eritrea.
The UAE has a long history of economic ties with Iran that ended in a stalemate in 2016. The Saudi ally has moved rapidly to mend ties with Iran in the past few years, appointing an ambassador to Tehran last year.
A few days ago, Iran announced that it would soon send its ambassador to the United Arab Emirates. This announcement was made by Iran’s Assistant Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri. He said that the ambassador of Iran will soon travel to the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
UAE President Sheikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan was met by Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani in Iran, in which they discussed opening ways and cooperation to achieve bilateral relations and common interests.
