A new partnership has been formed between Reju, a company that specializes in regenerating textiles, and CIBETEX, a group of companies working together to create a more sustainable textile supply chain. This alliance aims to develop a circular ecosystem among CIBETEX member companies, allowing Reju to receive post-consumption textile waste for recycling and production of Reju Polyester TM regenerated.
The collaboration will utilize Reju’s innovative textile recycling technology, providing new opportunities for the circular regeneration of materials. According to Jan Lamme, CEO of Cibtex, this partnership reinforces their ability to return post-use commercial textiles to the productive cycle, guaranteeing necessary traceability and quality for a sustainable future.
Reju is currently leading the creation of a global infrastructure for regenerating large-scale textile waste, starting with polyester. Their Reju Polyester TM is expected to have a 50% lower carbon footprint compared to virgin polyester and can be regenerated indefinitely. As part of this agreement, CIBETEX member company materials will be processed at Reju’s Regeneration Hub Zero in Frankfurt, Germany, which is set to be fully operational by 2025, as well as in future regeneration centers.
CIBETEX works to collect and process commercial use textiles at the end of their useful life, facilitating their reintegration into the productive cycle. The goal is to close the B2B textile production cycle, ensuring post-use textiles are collected and transformed into high-value raw materials. The integration of Reju’s patented regeneration technology guarantees traceability and scalability, essential elements for a truly circular and sustainable textile supply chain.
Patrik Frisk, CEO of Reju, emphasized that the partnership between Reju and CIBETEX is a significant step towards creating a circular ecosystem for commercial textiles. Together, they aim to address the challenge of textile waste and build an infrastructure that prevents valuable materials from ending up in landfills or being incinerated, while reducing the industry’s carbon footprint.
The alliance between Reju and CIBETEX highlights the importance of innovation and collaboration in tackling the growing problem of textile waste. With new regulations in the European Union requiring the mandatory collection of textile waste and pending regulations in the United States, this initiative is timely. The partnership will enable the development of scalable solutions that meet regulatory requirements and contribute to a more sustainable future.
