Refsnyder decides for Boston, Devers, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs, Family wins

Rob Refsnyder ended the game with an RBI single inside a four-run ninth-inning drive by the Boston Red Sox, who came from behind and beat the Texas Rangers 9-8 Thursday night.

The Red Sox trailed 8-3 in the eighth inning and 8-5 leading into the ninth.

With no out, Boston loaded the bases on Jonathan Hernandez (1-1).

Rafael Devers doubled for two runs and Kiké Hernández tied it with an RBI single before Refsnyder completed the comeback with another single to left field.

Refsnyder took a wide turn at first base before his teammates surrounded him to cheer after they burst out of the dugout.

Jeurys Familia (2-1) pitched the ninth inning scoreless for Boston, whose pitching staff struggled constantly.

The Rangers left 12 running backs, based on their fifth straight loss.

Adolis Garcia hit a two-run homer in the eighth that had opened up the possibility for Texas to snap its losing streak.

In the bottom half, Devers started Boston’s comeback with an RBI double and scored on Christian Arroyo’s single, which drove in three runs.

For the Red Sox, Mexican Alex Verdugo 4-3, three runs scored, one produced. The Dominicans Rafael Devers 5-2, two runs scored, three RBIs, and Franchy Cordero 2-0. Puerto Rican Enrique Hernández 2-1, one RBI.

For the Rangers, Cuban Adolis Garcia 5-1, two runs scored, three RBIs. Dominicans Leody Taveras 4-1, one scored, and Ezequiel Durán 1-0.
