Reds beat Pirates with home runs by Fraley, Newman and India, Santana and Cruz, 2 hits

Jake Fraley came on to hit a three-run homer, Kevin Newman added a two-run shot against his former team and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Pittsbugh Pirates 6-2 on Saturday.

Jonathan India added a solo shot, while Nick Lodolo overcame a challenging first inning. Cincinnati snapped an eight-game losing streak against Pittsburgh that dated back to the previous season, when both teams suffered 100 losses.

Fraley’s second career pinch-hit home run came in the sixth inning, off right-hander Chase De Jong. The ball landed in the visitors’ bullpen, behind right field.

The only pitch clock violation in the game resulted in Carlos Santana committing an automatic strike for Pittsburgh.

Lodolo (1-0) required 109 pitches to go five innings. The Pirates had seven hits and two runs off the lefty, who is in his second year in the majors and finished with nine strikeouts and two walks.

The defeated was Rich Hill (0-1).

For the Pirates, the Dominicans Santana 4-2 with a run scored, Oneil Cruz 4-2 with an RBI, Rodolfo Castro 3-0.

For the Reds, Cuban José Barrero 3-0.
