Redmi K50 Ultra arrives with a sensor that is below expectations

In its presentation today, Xiaomi has also had time to present a new element of the Redmi sub-brand.

The K50 Ultra hit the market today, but with a 108-megapixel sensor that falls short of 200-megapixel expectations. But there are other arguments that can make you forget this disappointment.

Processor, RAM and storage

Among the seven novelties presented, the Redmi sub-brand was also entitled to its moment of glory at the Xiaomi event that took place today. And the protagonist was the new K50 Ultra smartphone that comes with interesting specifications, but that may disappoint some photography enthusiasts.

Inside the new terminal is the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is combined with 8 or 12 GB of RAM. In UFS 3.1 internal storage, the model has three possible options with 128, 256 or 512 GB. Also noteworthy is the integrated VC liquid cooling system to keep the model at a temperature that does not affect its performance.

108-megapixel camera, not 200-megapixel

The latest rumors circulating on the web already indicated that Xiaomi was not going to include the long-awaited 200 megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor in this model and today we confirm this information.

The Redmi K50 Ultra arrives with a primary sensor from Samsung, but with the ISOCELL HM6 model of “only” 108 megapixels, which falls a little short of expectations. Especially after Motorola, also today, launched the X30 Pro model with 200 megapixel ISOCELL HP1 on the Chinese market. It seems that in the war of higher resolution sensors, Motorola is winning the race.

But the good news is that the K50 Ultra’s HM6 sensor has optical image stabilization and is complemented by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor and a 2-megapixel macro sensor. On the front it has a 20-megapixel camera for video calls and selfies.

Battery and operating system

One of the great highlights of the new Redmi K50 Ultra is, without a doubt, its huge 5,000 mAh battery. But best of all, it supports 120W fast charging. Unfortunately, the brand has not announced the loading times of the new terminal, but they will surely be quite fast.

The Redmi K50 even runs the Android 12 operating system, under the MIUI 13 interface. Since it has just been released, by the end of the year it should be one of the terminals eligible to receive the major MIUI 14 interface update, Based on Android 13 .

Screen and other features

For the rest, the new Redmi model also includes Wi-Fi 6, NFC, speakers compatible with Dolby Atmos technology, a linear vibration motor on the x-axis and a fingerprint scanner integrated into the screen.
