Red Bull Shakeup: Checo Pérez Exit Looms, What’s Next for Team

Red Bull Racing Announces Sergio Pérez’s Departure

Sergio Pérez, also known as “Checo,” will no longer be a part of Red Bull Racing, as the team has announced his departure from the 2025 F1 grid. Pérez and the team have reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, which was renewed in June of this year and was set to expire at the end of 2025.

A Successful Tenure with Red Bull Racing

Pérez joined Red Bull Racing in 2021 and has since enjoyed the most successful period of his 13-year F1 career. During his time with the team, he has secured five victories, including wins at the Monaco Grand Prix and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, earning him the reputation as the “King of the F1 Streets.” Pérez has also played a crucial role in helping the team win two F1 Constructors’ titles in 2022 and 2023.

A Message from Sergio Pérez

Pérez expressed his gratitude to the team, stating, “I am incredibly grateful for the last four years with Red Bull Racing and for the opportunity to race with such an incredible team. Driving for Red Bull has been an unforgettable experience, and I will always fondly remember the successes we have achieved together.”

A Tribute from Christian Horner

Christian Horner, team director and CEO of Red Bull Racing, praised Pérez, saying, “I would like to thank Checo for everything he has done over the last four seasons. From the moment he joined in 2021, he proved to be an extraordinary player for the team, helping us to two titles of constructors and our first double in the drivers’ championship.”

The Reason Behind Pérez’s Departure

Pérez’s poor performance this year, with no podium finishes since the sixth round in the Miami GP, has been cited as a significant factor in the team’s decision to terminate his contract. His lack of contribution to the team’s points tally has hindered their ability to compete for the Constructors’ World Championship.

Liam Lawson to Replace Pérez

Although not officially confirmed, Liam Lawson, a New Zealander from the Visa RB subsidiary, is expected to take over Pérez’s seat as Max Verstappen’s partner. Lawson will face the challenging task of keeping up with Verstappen, who is widely regarded as one of the best drivers on the grid.

Checo’s Legacy in F1

Pérez’s departure marks the end of an era for Mexican F1 drivers. With six victories, 39 podiums, and three poles, Pérez is the most successful Mexican driver in F1 history, surpassing Ricardo and Pedro Rodríguez. His legacy will be remembered for generations to come, and his impact on the sport will be felt for years to come.
