Sergeant Adrián Fernández, who sustained injuries during a confrontation with M23 rebels in the Congo, has been transferred to a level IV hospital in Uganda for further treatment. The National Army stated that the evacuation was necessary to ensure Fernández receives appropriate care for his wounds.
Injured Troops
In addition to Sergeant Fernández, three other troops were injured in the incident. These troops are currently under observation in the city of Goma, also known as the “city of rubber.” The injured soldiers are part of the Anti-Aircraft Defense Artillery No. 1 and the Artillery Group No. 5.
Casualties
The incident resulted in the death of 1st Rodolfo Álvarez, a soldier from the mechanized cavalry squadrons No. 1. The National Army confirmed the death and is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
