Real Madrid Eyes American Forward in Shock Transfer Move

Real Madrid is looking to strengthen its team with the addition of Sam Dekker, a 30-year-old power forward who currently has a temporary contract with Joventut that ends on January 18. Dekker’s impressive performance in the Endesa League has caught the attention of Real Madrid, who are seeking to fill the ‘4’ shooter role that has been vacant since Guerschon Yabusele’s departure to the NBA.

Dekker joined Joventut in mid-November with a one-month contract that was later extended on December 18. His temporary contract has been a success, with Dekker becoming one of the key players in Joventut’s virtual classification for the Copa del Rey.

In seven games in the Endesa League, Dekker averages 14.3 points with 52% in shots from two and 50% in triples, 5.4 rebounds, and 15 efficiency. His recent performances have been impressive, with 65 points, 20 rebounds, and a PIR of 78 in his last three games.

Joventut’s decision to extend Dekker’s contract was influenced by his good performance and high salary. However, his non-EU status could pose a problem for Real Madrid, who would need to discard one of their non-EU players, Gabriel Deck or Xavier Rathan-Mayes, to make room for Dekker.

Three Non-EU Citizens or Departure from Rathan-Mayes

Real Madrid’s interest in Dekker has raised questions about the team’s non-EU player situation. Dekker’s arrival would force the team to choose between him, Gabriel Deck, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes. Alternatively, the team could consider Rathan-Mayes’ departure, which has been rumored in the past.

Dekker has NBA experience, having played 201 games in six seasons with the Rockets, Clippers, Cavaliers, Wizards, and Raptors. He averaged 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. Dekker has also played for Lokomotiv Kuban, Turk Telekom, Bahcesehir Koleji, and the London Lions, where he was MVP of the British Basketball League.
