Real Madrid won the European Super Cup for the fifth time in its history, after defeating German Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0, in a match played at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
Madrid prevailed in the Finnish capital with a goal from Austrian defender David Alaba in the first half, while the second goal was scored by French striker Karim Benzema.
The Spanish team came to dispute this trophy after winning its 14th. Champions League last May, while Frankfurt got the passage after obtaining the UEFA League cup.
In the German team, the Colombian Rafael Santos Borré, former River Plate, started as the starter, while the Argentine Lucas Alario, former Colón and River, entered in the second half.
Italian coach Carlos Ancelotti made his debut in the second half for two of the entity’s signings for this season: German defender Antonio Rudiger and young French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, one of the transfers in this market.
With this UEFA trophy, Real Madrid is close to 100 official titles, which makes it the most successful club in world football history organized by FIFA.
For his part, striker Benzema became Real Madrid’s second all-time scorer, with the goal against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Benzema, captain in the win against the Germans, reached 324 goals and surpassed the historic Raúl (323) by one, when he converted 20 minutes into the second half to make it 2-0 to win the European title in Helsinki.
Of the 324 conquests, 219 were for La Liga; 21 for the Copa del Rey; 74 for the European Champions League; two for the European Super Cup; five for the Spanish Super Cup, and three for the Club World Cup.
The top five of Real Madrid’s scorers has the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo as the leader with 450 goals, followed by Benzema (324); Raul (323); the Argentine Alfredo Di Stéfano (308); and the Spanish Santillana (290).
